The dream of flying has come true. Time for new dreams.

A 202 hectare research and industry park for urban technologies is planned on the 495 hectare inner-city area of the former Tegel Airport, in addition to the social-ecological residential area “Schumacher Quartier” and the new recreational area of the “Tegeler Stadheide”: “Berlin TXL – The Urban Tech Republic”. The park will focus on research, development and production of environmentally responsible technologies for sustainable urban development. In the future, companies, startups and scientific institutions will develop and produce solutions for the city of tomorrow here.

The focus will include the following topics:

  • Climate-neutral energy systems and the efficient use of energy
  • Environmentally friendly mobility
  • Clean water
  • Recycling
  • Use of new materials for applications such as sustainable construction
  • Networked control of systems

The completion of the first construction phase is scheduled for 2029. Leasing has already begun; a good 30 companies, including those in the mobility and energy technology sectors, are already located on site.
